John Friday

ABOUT JOHN

Just the facts, ma'am...

John Friday is an Asheville, NC-based songwriter and international recording artist whose classic rock, folk, and Americana feel like a long drive from the mountains to the sea.

With a warm, road-tested voice and a lyrical groove, his songs land in that sweet spot where story meets chorus—equal parts plainspoken and sing-along, with room for grit, humor, and heart. Drawing from the laid-back sway of Jimmy Buffett, the detail-rich writing of John Prine, the restless edge of Neil Young, and the soulful punch of Delbert McClinton—plus the country-rock pull of the Eagles—Friday builds a sound that’s familiar without feeling stuck in time.

He’s released four albums so far, with a fifth currently in the works, and his work has earned a Trop Rock Music Association Horizon Award along with 12 TRMA nominations.

Friday’s live shows are where the songs fully open up, shaped by years on the road and a connection-first approach that turns a room into a shared moment. He’s even opened for Jimmy Buffett in Dublin, Ireland. Catch John at a show near you!

A house concert isn't just a show. It's a gathering of friends, old and new!

A house concert is a live music performance held in a private home or small, intimate space, offering a close and personal experience with the artist.

A house concert, also called a home concert, is a musical performance hosted in someone's home, apartment, or a nearby small private space such as a backyard, barn, or rec room. Unlike traditional concerts in large venues, house concerts are intimate and personal, allowing attendees to experience music up close and interact directly with the performers. Audience sizes are typically small, ranging from a couple dozen to around 200 people, depending on the space.

How House Concerts Work

House concerts are usually private and invitation-only, with hosts often not profiting from the event. Attendees may contribute a suggested donation to support the musicians, which often covers the artist’s fee and sometimes refreshments. Performances are generally acoustic or lightly amplified, creating a cozy and authentic listening environment. Hosts may provide food, drinks, or a potluck-style gathering, enhancing the social and communal aspect of the event.

Benefits and Experience

For attendees, house concerts offer a unique, up-close musical experience that is difficult to achieve in large concert halls or festivals. They allow for conversation with the artist, personalized interactions, and a relaxed atmosphere where music and socializing blend seamlessly. For musicians, house concerts provide a chance to perform in a supportive environment, connect with fans, and receive direct feedback without the distractions of large venues.

Hosting a House Concert

Organizing a house concert is relatively simple: select a musician or band, invite friends or guests, and prepare a comfortable space for the performance. Platforms like SofaConcerts can help match hosts with artists and manage logistics, making it easier to plan a successful event. The focus is on creating a memorable, intimate musical experience rather than generating profit, emphasizing community, music appreciation, and personal connection. The Facebook group "House Concert Central" is an excellent resource.
